Influence of Global Climate Change on Lifestyles of Family Members in Ilorin South LGA of Kwara State

Abstract

Climate change refers to an increase in average global temperatures caused by natural events and human activities, which are believed to be contributing to an increase in average global temperatures affecting food production, drinking water, spread of infectious disease, occupation, income groups, classes, which may have significant influence on lifestyle of family members. This study examines the influence of global climate change on lifestyles of family members in IIorin South LGA Kwara State. Four research questions were raised, and two hypotheses formulated and tested at 0.05 level of significance. Descriptive survey research design was adopted for the study. The population of the study comprised people from Ilorin South L.G.A, numbering 2,820. A total of 220 residents constituted the study sample. The instrument used was a questionnaire tagged Global Climate Change Questionnaire (GCCQ), developed by the researchers based on the objectives and research questions formulated. The instrument has reliability index of 0.74. Data collected were analyzed with descriptive statistics, percentages, frequencies, mean and standard deviation. The null hypotheses were analyzed using Pearson Product Moment Correlation (PPMC). The results revealed that family members in Ilorin South LGA are aware of Global Climate Change and agreed human activities causes global climate change. ( >2.50).
