About Us

The Journal of The Society for Human Ecologists (JSHE) is the official journal of the Society for Human Ecologists in Nigeria (SHEN). It is a peer-reviewed, open-access journal, published twice a year under the print ISSN 3026-9083, and it is the Society's principal medium for placing the research of its members and of the wider scholarly community on public record.

The Society brings together home economists, home scientists, nutritionists, clothing and textiles specialists, family and consumer scientists, educators and extension professionals who study the relationship between people and the environments in which they live. The journal carries that concern into print. It publishes empirical, theoretical and applied work on the family and the household, on food and nutrition, on clothing and textiles, on housing and the domestic environment, on consumer and resource management, on vocational and home economics education, and on the environmental and economic pressures that shape everyday life — with particular attention to Nigeria and the wider African continent.

Every manuscript submitted to JSHE is screened for originality and scope, checked with similarity-detection software, and assessed by at least two independent experts under a double-blind review process in which neither authors nor reviewers are identified to one another. Accepted articles are assigned a Crossref DOI, deposited for permanent citation, and made freely available online.

The journal is edited by an Editorial Board drawn from universities in Nigeria and abroad; the full membership is listed on the Editorial Board page. Authors intending to submit should first read the Aims & Scope and the Author Guidelines.
